John Simpson

The Wild Caledonia team is led by John and is one of Central Scotland’s most experienced birders. He has been leading birding trips throughout the UK for over thirty years. He is synonymous with studying Scotland’s, and for most of the year, Britain’s only population of Bean Geese. He is a member of the Central Scotland Raptor Study Group and specialises in Hen Harriers. He has made a significant contribution in species protection by promoting awareness of the threats faced by raptors on national television. John’s love of Hen Harriers in particular, was featured on the 2006 series of BBC Springwatch. He is a sociable and friendly person who endeavours to create an enjoyable atmosphere for all.

Kenny Stewart

Kenny is an effervescent character, keen birder and member of the South Strathclyde Raptor Study Group. He is an enthusiastic tour guide with considerable experience. He is a fully qualified Passenger Carrying Vehicle driver and is first aid trained. He has first rate ID skills and has found a number of rare species on our trips. His greatest quality is his enthusiasm and is keen to help and ensure that you enjoy your holiday.

David Palmar 

David is an enthusiastic semi professional wildlife photographer and birder. He has built up considerable experience with species such as Peregrine Falcon, Hen Harrier and Black Grouse. In fact, many of the pictures adorning this website are courtesy of David. He is the son of the famous pioneer of nature photography in Scotland, Charlie Palmar and with his present portfolio is making a considerable impact in this specialised field. He conducts wildlife photography classes and has kindly agreed to extend his expertise to Wild Caledonia. He is also another member of Wild Caledonia’s safe driving team and is a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists. Graham Sparshott

Graham is the former local recorder for the Isle of White and brings a wealth of knowledge to the Wild Caledonia team. He has considerable experience in organising and leading trips for a range of groups both here and on the IOW. His ID skills are excellent and coupled with a polite, patient and friendly manner he will make your holiday and enjoyable experience and always be on hand to explain the ecology of the wonderful species you will see on your holiday.
