Birding holidays in Scotland

Travel options

It could not be easier to get to us!

Glasgow is the easiest and cheapest city to get to in Scotland.

By Air. Glasgow International Airport is just 25 minutes away and Prestwick International Airport is approx 50 minutes away.

By Rail. Glasgow has two main railway stations, Glasgow Queen Street and Glasgow Central. Both stations are in the city centre and are short 30 minute drive to Loch Lomond.

By Bus. Glasgow’s main bus terminal is Buchanan Street Bus Depot. The depot is in the heart of the city. Again, just 30 minutes will see you at Helensburgh on the Firth of Clyde.

However, to take the strain, a member of the team will pick you up from wherever you arrive and return you free of charge. Just let us know your travel arrangements and we will be delighted to meet you!

By Car. From the south, it is motorway and dual carriageway all the way to Loch Lomondside. From the north and east, head for Loch Lomond and Helensburgh. A member of the Wild Caledonia team will be there to greet you and ensure you get settled in. Once everyone has arrived you will be welcomed by the team and over a bar meal and a whisky in the hotel, you will be given a presentation on your chosen break and the species that you’ll see. From there we will retire to the comfort of the hotel, enjoy some highland hospitality and look forward to what Scotland’s wildlife has to offer.

When you are with us, your safety is of paramount importance. Each of our drivers is suitably qualified to drive a passenger carrying vehicle. They are in possession of either a Police passenger carrying vehicle certificate or an Institute of Advanced Motorists qualification for the vehicle they are driving.

On each trip there will always be a leader who is First Aid at Work qualified and fully stocked first aid kits will always be with us, no matter where we are. All our leaders are  experienced hillwalkers and insured through the Scottish Mountaineering Council. They will lead our hill expeditions and ensure a safe and enjoyable field trip in the mountains. Whether you’re in our vehicle or on the hill, you’ll be in safe in our hands!
Birding on the roof of Britain. Kenny Stewart and Mike Glavin with Ptarmigan at their feet!
After enjoying a memorable day in the mountains with stunning views of Ptarmigan, Ring Ouzel, Dotterel and Snow Bunting, you can enjoy a light refreshment in the Ptarmigan Restaurant before descending via the Cairngorm Mountain Railway.
